This
book was one of 10 I chose to read this summer from the Modern Mrs. Darcy
Summer Reading Guide. I was happy to discover that one of my #Litsy friends
obtained an ARC from NetGalley. I immediately attempted to do the same with
instant success!!! Thank you Macmillan Publishers for giving
me the opportunity to listen to this book in exchange for an honest review.
I
settled down to listen to The Bodyguard with anticipation. I was not
disappointed. I quickly connected with the female main character, Hannah – the bodyguard,
and thoroughly enjoyed being in her head. She was witty, funny, and relatable. Everyone
underestimated her until she proved them wrong. Enter Jack, the male main
character, a mega superstar movie actor. People also underestimated him. One of
the things I believe the author wants to get across is that you shouldn’t judge
a person by their outward trappings (their covers) or the circumstances in
which they find themselves.
The
Bodyguard moved along quite well. I finished listening to it in 2 days – it would
have been sooner, but I had to be responsible and do laundry and make dinner –
you know. The supporting characters were also endearing, most of them, proving
that there can be good people everywhere if you give them a chance. My rating
for this one is 5 stars because it made me feel good. It was a sweet love
story. Unexpected, dangerous things happened that made me question that
opinion, but it was all okay in the end. I also liked that it was a closed door romance. It definitely reminded me of the movie
The Proposal with Ryan Reynolds. If you liked that movie and you like reading
rom coms, you would love this book!
Happy Reading!
